Ultrasound Diagnosis and Therapy

Therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment modality used to promote tissue healing, local blood flow, localised heating effect and scar tissue reduction. It has been used in practice for the last 50 years. The most common injuries treated with ultrasound are ligament and muscle injuries such as sprains and strains, tendinitis and muscle spasm.

Ultrasound waves are generated by a vibration of crystals in the head of the ultrasound probe and these pass through the skin and cause a vibratory effect in the soft tissue. Ultrasound is relatively safe and is unlikely to cause any adverse effects. It cannot be used over metal plates/pins, malignancies/ tumours, growth plates in children, infected tissue, ischaemic tissue or pregnancy.

We also use Ultrasound (we have a different ultrasound machine for this) to assess peripheral blood flow through your arteries. This helps us to assess your circulation health in your feet and whether we should offer any treatment for this or refer you to another practitioner who can help with this matter.
