This procedure is used to remove the problem portion of an ingrown toenail and to prevent the ingrown toenail from recurring. This surgery is performed under local anesthetic, and can be done quickly at our office.
An ingrown toenail is a painful digging in of your toenail edge. It can occur on any toenail, but most commonly affects the big toenails. A toenail may have a naturally curved shape, change shape with time or be damaged by trauma. If conservative management fails to provide long term relief than a partial nail avulsion or wedge resection can be performed.
A partial nail avulsion is usually combined with a chemical to provide a permanent solution. This procedure is performed in the office under a local anaesthetic. Wedge resections are usually done at a local hospital, and can be done under a local or general anaesthetic.
